September .:. Trousers // Grasser #686
Sew Your Wardrobe Basics September was trousers / pants month and I’m curious to see what you made. You’re invited to share your basic make above this text in the link up tool (just add a link).
I must admit I started my trousers in August before we went away on vacation, because I knew when school starts again in September I would’t have much sewing time. That was the right decision, because otherwise the trousers wouldn’t be finished yet (I’m currently working on a corduroy trouser).
About my trousers:
fabric: 100% cotton
pattern: Grasser #686 – the English pattern – the Russian pattern
size: I went with my hip size after the size chart on the website and chose the hight 1,76m-1,82m (I’m 1,80m tall), the pattern runs true to size
fit: fitted at the waist, quite loose fitted around the hips / legs
I didn’t make any alterations and am happy with the fit. I lost a few pounds during our vacation, so the trousers sit a bit loose around waist and hips, but nothing major.
instructions: I bought the Russian version of the pattern and used only the pictures, since I don’t speak Russian unfortunately. If you’re an advanced sewist you can get away with just the picture instructions, but for beginners it might be challenging (especially the fly zip front, but there are a lot of Video tutorials on You Tube to watch, if you need help)
recommendation: I like this pattern and made two versions: these cotton trousers as part of a suit and a cotton linen blend herringbone version (not yet blogged). Another very similar trousers pattern is on my to sew list: it’s the Adelina trousers by Vikisews. I’m curious how the fit differs between these two patterns (I think the Adelina has one more pleat in the front, the Grasser pattern has just one).
Tomorrow I’ll announce the theme for October and hope to see you again here.
Have a great rest of the week.
