August was silk month! I’m really curious to see your handmade silk pieces. You’re invited to share your silk basics (or any other basic clothes you made during August) in the link tool above. Just add a link to an Instagram picture or a blogpost.
For me silk is an exciting and a bit scary fabric: it’s slippery and very delicate, you have to be careful wearing and washing it. Personally I don’t like very shiny silk fabrics and always look for matt silks such as crêpe de Chine. I have a few silk fabrics in my stash and planned on making more garments during August, but we’re on vacation right now, so unfortunately my time was limited and I was able to finish just one shirt.
At the beginning of August I was planning on making the Vikisews Jenny shirt, but I decided to go with another pattern…

About my silk shirt:
fabric: 100% silk (crêpe de Chine)
pattern: Caroline by Prime Patterns
: I went with my bust size after the size chat on the website

: quite loose fitted

: I didn’t need any alterations, which was very surprising. Usually I need at least changing of the bust point, but the pattern works great for me.
instructions: Unfortunately the instructions are just in German and with just a few pictures.
I was pleasently surprised how great the silk behaved while sewing. The crepe de Chine makes it quite easy, I think. The pattern is amazing and I would highly recommend it for silk fabrics. I made another version in cotton fabric, but the fabric is a bit stiff (still wearable), so I’d recommend lightweight and fluid fabrics for this pattern.
Tomorrow is the announcement of the September theme for Sew Your Wardrobe Basics and I hope to see you again here.
Have a great day.
