July .:. Buttons // The Classic Shirt by Liesl & Co.
Welcome to the July finale of Sew Your Wardrobe Basics… and my summer break! I must admitt: I was so crazy busy for the last two month, I neglected my blog. Work (aka school) was the busiest I ever experienced since I work as a teacher.
But enough of me! You are per usual invited to join Sew Your Wardrobe Basics and share your July make in the Link Up above. The theme for July was “buttons”, but you can share any handmade basic piece you made this month.
This month I opted for a classic linen shirtdress in a really pale blue with a popover placket and reused shell buttons.
fabric: 100% Linen
pattern: The Liesl + Co. classic shirt pattern (paper and pdf pattern, sizes US 0-20 and A-D-cup sizes)
size: The size chart suggested a size 18 for my measurments and I went with it (bust size C)
fit: quite loose fitted
alterations: Since the D cup size pattern was too big, I used the C cup size and made a tiny full bust adjustment (this way it’s not as much as the D cup size). On the Liesl + Co. website is an instruction to lengthen the shirt pattern to a dress, which I followed. I also went with the popover placket: you can find the tutorial here: free popover placket tutorial.
instructions: The instructions of the shirt pattern, which I made first, are fine with pictures and text. But unfortunately there is no pdf instruction for the popover placket or the shirt dress version, so I had to have my phone on hand for every step of the popover placket (not so much for the dress hack). I wish there was a pdf to download and print.
recommendation: This pattern is my current favourite shirt pattern: this spring I made two shirts with this pattern, followed by this dress. I highly recommend the pattern, but even though the pattern includes different cup sizes, be aware that you may need to make further adjustments.
Tomorrow I’ll announce the Sew Your Wardrobe Basics theme for the month of August. I hope to see you again tomorrow.
have a great start to your weekend.
