Basic Blazer .:. Burda style 10/2010 #108

This is the forth blazer I made with lapels and I’m over the moon with the result (if I do say so myself)! That’s not just because of my skills, but of the absolutely delicious wool cashmere blend fabric. I know grey is such a basic (and sometimes boring) colour, but I started the #SewYourWardrobe Challenge for 2020, because I was already sewing basics at the end of 2019. And I don’t think this blazer is boring at all. It’ll be a great wardrobe basic for the winter month and maybe even for the trasition into spring.

Now let’s talk about the blazer pattern:

fabric: wool cashmere blend

pattern: Burda style 10/2010 #108 (I browsed the webside, but they deleted all old patterns before 2015, here is the link to the German Burda style homepage in case you want to see the technical drawing)

size: I chose the size 44

fit: fitted quite loose

alterations: I love the fit around the shoulders, but I had to make a full bust adjustment and I added an inch at the hips.I also skipped the buttons and buttonholes at the arms, too time consuming.

instructions: As usual Burda instructions are on the shorter side, especially the pattern instructions in the magazine. Since this wasn’t my first blazer, I didn’t care much about the instructions and followed my own steps. This pattern is definetely for advanced sewers and for beginners I’d suggest a blazer pattern with a more detailed instructions, such as the Jasika blazer by Closet Case Patterns (here you get the whole shabang with interfacing, hand stitching etc.).

recommendation: Ever since the full bust adjustment was done and the second muslin fitted great, I was in love with this pattern, BUT: it was a lot of work and took me around two month to finally finish the blazer. Now the pattern is adjusted, I would love to make this blazer again. If you aren’t afraid of alterations (especially if you have a bigger bust) I highly recommend this pattern.

And if you need some sewing motivation, maybe my sewing challenge SewYourWardrobeBasics is for you?

I hope you had a great start to the new year. Happy Sunday!
